May G. Edmunds Remembrance Scholarship

We are pleased to offer an annual needs-based scholarship in remembrance of May G. Edmunds (1934-2009),
a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Intellectually, May was a joyful and careful observer of the mechanisms of life. She trained as a biologist and ecologist, but her relentless curiosity led her to such diverse fields as fashion, psychological testing, art, education and even the construction trade.

May met her husband Bob during their college days at DePauw University and were even Sigma Chi Sweethearts. A very sweet journal entry shows her thoughts.

The happy couple then married after graduation. Bob and May had three children, one of whom, James, serves as an advisor to the foundation.

May passed away at age 74, surrounded by loving family, after a courageous seven-month battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The May G. Edmunds Remembrance Scholarship recognizes outstanding observational abilities in the fields of biology and ecology. The target audience is Kirkwood (MO) High School students and-or alum, and the successful award candidate(s) with need will embody May's spirit in many of the following important ways:

– Keen and curious observer of the natural world
– Understanding of the scientific process
– Dedication to family
– Sense of humor and wonder

When available for award, an application button will appear below for a period not to exceed 120 calendar days. Notifications will be made via an email blast to our contact list and any platforms made available by the targeted school(s).

Generally, there is only one holder of each remembrance scholarship at any given time. Once a recipient's academic studies are complete, the scholarship will then be made available for award again. Beyond the announcement of the opening of the application process itself, the foundation provides no official timelines and makes no guarantees of any scholarship award.
