We are pleased to offer an annual scholarship in remembrance of Ann M. DuBose (1944-2011), mother of our founder Jim DuBose.
Ann was born in New York to James and Jean Riley. Sadly, James, a P-38 pilot in WWII, was killed in action just weeks before her birth. But Jean persevered and raised Ann primarily thereafter in Richmond, Virginia. Ann and Jean were both women of great resolve and strength.
Three generations; Jim, Ann, Jean
Jim’s grandfather James, P-38 fighter pilot, WWII, killed in action
While raised on the East Coast, Ann spent much of her adult life in the West and Midwest and it was there that her thirst for travel and adventure was honed.
Ann loved animals of every shape and size
But most of all she loved her family and her family loved her. She made being an active part of the lives of her grandchildren a priority.

Ann was a fighter and bravely battled Leukemia for years, many of which were good and beyond her original prognosis. For this reason, annual giving to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) is a priority for the foundation. And while her body left this earth too soon, her spirit lives on in many ways including through this remembrance scholarship.
The successful award candidate(s) will embody Ann’s spirit in many of the following important ways:
– Strength and sticktoitiveness
– Independent thinking
– Love of life, travel, and adventure
– Family first
